An experience that must be created.

Many people think of love as something that suddenly happens to them, as if some magic is sprinkled on them like a fairy dust that transforms their pumpkin into a carriage. They think that some wonderful person will show up one day and allow them to plug love right out of the air. Only an individual can create love, as far as others are concerned - the only thing that they can do is express it. You can surround yourself with people that possess the most incredible love, but if you don't create it, their love will never provide you with one of your own. No one can literally give us love. It cannot be placed in someone else's hands. It cannot be surgically implanted through hugs or kisses. To think that someone can give us love is to misunderstand how it is created. Love is not composed of one thing. When we express love, we are expressing an experience of our deepest values. It is impossible to give this actual experience to someone because it has to be achieved. I cannot give someone love any more than I can give them honesty.
